Son Finally Reunites with Mother in ‘Bread, Love and Dreams’  --

0916 Kim Tak-gu

A character in the KBS drama “Bread, Love and Dreams” has finally reunited with his mother 14 years after she disappeared and was believed to be dead.

In the episode #28, Kim Tak-gu (Yoon Si-yoon) sees a man taking his mother Yang Mi-sun (Jun Mi-sun) in a car. He follows the car, and Cho Jin-gu (Park Seong-woong), a friend of Tak-gu’s from the bakery they are working at, is driving the car. Jin-gu is the one suspected of having been involved in the kidnapping of Mi-sun 14 year ago. But he unlocks the car and lets Mi-sun escape.  But Mi-sun is caught again by a group of men sent by Han Seung-jae (Chung Sung-mo).  Fortunately, Tak-gu, hearing her calling out his name, finds her and confronts the men to protect her.

Tak-gu lets them beat him up until they give up. “Beat me up until you are satisfied, but I won’t leave without taking my mom. You either beat me up to death or let me take my mother with me,” Tak-gu says. “I lost her when I was only 12, and I’ve been searching her for 14 years since then.  And now I’ve finally found her right there. If you were me, could you leave your mother you’ve been searching for without even knowing if she’s already dead or not. If you have parents, you should know how I feel.”  This moves the men. They stop beating Tak-gu and let him meet his mother. The two hold each other and cry. Tak-gu takes her to the Palbong bakery, where everyone welcomes them. The mother and son spend the first night together in 14 years holding each other’s hands in sleep. The drama had its final episode in Seoul on Sep. 16th.

Teacher Finds Out True Gender of Disguised Boy

0916 Sungkyunkwan 2

A teacher has found out that a girl is disguised as a boy to study at the boy-only Confucian school Sungkyunkwan in “Sungkyunkwan Scandal.”

In the episode #5, Kim Yun-hee (Park Min-young) is required by student representative Ha In-su (Jeon Tae-soo) to stand up with an apple on her head so he can shoot it with a bow and arrow. She loses her consciousness in fear although she is rescued by Lee Seon-jun (Micky) and Moon Jae-shin (Yu A-in) at the last moment.  Seon-jun and Jae-shin take Yun-hee to the teacher and doctor Jeong Yak-yong (Ahn Nae-sang), who happens to learn that Yun-hee is a child of his former fellow teacher Kim Seung-hwan, who died after being implicated in a political conspiracy.

The teacher feels her pulse and finds out that Yun-hee is a girl, not a boy.  Recovering consciousness, Yun-hee looks for her hairpin, and the teacher holds it up and asks her, “Are you a girl?”  Caught off guard, Yun-hee kneels down and asks him for forgiveness. The teacher says, “How can you expect to be forgiven when you’ve deceived the school? What is your motive?”  “I only did so to make a living. This was the only way for me to be able to live,” she says. “I had to earn money for my mother and sick brother.”  But that does not soften the teacher. He scolds her more severely for justifying her wrongdoings and breaking moral principles and tells her that she will be punished for this. He dismisses her, warning that she should not tell anyone about this and wait quietly until he decides what to do.  Later, Yun-hee goes to see the teacher again and pleads with him with all her heart to allow her to remain at Sungkyunkwan.

In Korea, you are not allowed to work on a secret investigation or be a private detective. This is why Jiwoo (Rain, Jung Ji-hoon)’s official job title is “P.I.A (Private Investigation Administrator)”.  Many years ago, Jiwoo handled the case of Asian couple who died at a casino in Las Vegas.  As a result, Jiwoo received astronomical amount of money as a reward and also became one of the top detectives.  Jiwoo didn’t know this incident would rebound upon him at that time.  He loses his best friend Gyudong and meets a lady named Jini (Lee Na-Young).  Jini requests Jiwoo to find a person calls Melchidec.  Jini believes that Melchidec is the one who killed her foster parents and she will also get killed by him. She thinks Jiwoo drew the conclusion that her adoptive parents committed suicide, even though he knows all these facts.  As Jiwoo and Jini come closer to getting the full story of the case, they notice that they fall in love for each other.
