Stars Reunite as Grown-ups in ‘Bread, Love and Dreams’
Two stars of the KBS drama “Bread, Love and Dreams” have reunited by a twist of fate.
In the episode #8, grown-up Kim Tak-gu (Yoon Si-yoon) and Gu Ma-jun (Ju Won) meet each other at the bakery of legendary baker Pal Bong (Jang Hang-seon). They take a test for a chance to learn baking skills from Pal Bong. Ma-jun tastes each of five kinds of dough to find out the right one for making bread, while Tak-gu tries to do the same by smelling them. This recalls the time when the two as young boys were tested by Ma-jun’s father Gu Il-jung (Jun Guang-lyul). They come up with different answers, with Ma-jun picking only one and Tak-gu saying all of the five are right.
Although Ma-jun gets the answer right, Pal Bong accepts Tak-gu as well, saying it is important to use a sense of smell without knowledge about dough. That surprises Ma-jun, and he is further taken aback when he hears Pal Bong asking his name and Tak-gu pronouncing it out loud. Tak-gu is the real son of Il-jung born out of wedlock, and Ma-jun was borne to his mother Seo In-suk (Jun In-hwa) and her lover Han Seung-jae (Chung Sung-mo). The two have to share a room. Learning that Tak-gu quit school to find his mother, who has gone missing, Ma-jun becomes sure that he is the same Tak-gu, his father’s son. Ma-jun becomes wary of Tak-gu, saying that he does not want him to talk to him or ask favors and personal questions.
Recalling that Seung-jae told him that he had made sure that they would not see Tak-gu again, Ma-jun is furious and meets Seung-jae. He tells him, “I myself will harm him or get rid of him if necessary. Do not touch him again.”
Meanwhile, Shin Yoo-gyeong, the first love of Tak-gu, also appears 12 years later, with all the stars reuniting as grown-ups. |

‘Grudge’ Expected to Chill Heat of Summer Nights A new summer horror series is expected to bring chills and thrills to the audience on hot summer nights. “Grudge: The Revolt of Gumiho” has begun airing on July 5 in Seoul. It is the first series about the traditional summer-time theme of the gumiho, or nine-tailed fox. Unlike previous single-episode special shows where the gumiho was usually a single woman who wants to become a human, this series features a married gumiho with a 10-year-old daughter. Here are some points requiring close attention to enjoy the show better. # Original Story
“Grudge: The Revolt of Gumiho” is based on a story which won the KBS script competition in 2009. With its proven quality, cast members have said that they chose to appear in the show because of the well-written, original story. While old gumiho stories were simple horror shows that focused on delivering the lesson that good triumphs over the evil, the new series combines elements from several genres including suspense and romance. # Outstanding Child Stars
It is not rare in recent dramas that child actors have impressed viewers with their outstanding performances and thus attract attention for the shows. “Grudge” is not an exception as there are great expectations for Kim Yoo-jeong and Seo Shin-ae. Kim, who played a child role of the heroine in “Dong Yi,” appears as the daughter of the gumiho. Seo, who enjoyed popularity through her role of a poor but sweet girl in the sitcom “High Kick 2,” plays an evil role harassing Kim. The two characters are doomed to see an entanglement in fate as they are born at the same time on the same day. # Special Effects
The drama makes the most of computer graphics to create spectacular visual images. It already boasted special effects in the first episode in such scenes where the gumiho fights with a tiger and murderous crows make an attack. Images of characters turning from a human into a gumiho are vivid and real enough to make viewers feel scared.
